Dottie
Carlson
was
ECARD's
FOUNDER and a friend to all of us!
|
On
October 6th, 2008, we all lost a
very, very dear friend.
She was not only a friend to many in Edgewater, but she was a friend to
people all over this state, other states, and even many in other
countries. And she was not just a friend to people (as in we "humans"),
but also a friend, protector, and caretaker of the animals that are
part of our lives, our ecosystems and an integral part of our planet.
She fought to save and heal many of our "little buddies," and
to save the natural environment they depend on, and she did it with a
degree of diligence and stamina that is no less than utterly amazing.
|
She
saved
gopher
tortoises,
squirrels, birds, and just about every
other little creature there is. I am deeply saddened and I
am without
effective words to describe the loss. But I can assure you of one
thing: She is not really "gone "- not really. She is still here
looking out for the little creatures and our environment. She planted
important seeds in the minds and hearts of many of us and made us take
a second look at the destruction that some of our "progress" brings.
She often pointed out that it doesn't have to be that way. We
CAN live peacefully, carefully and harmoniously with nature if we
really want to. We just have to make that decision, and be willing to
work for it, and even fight for it, when necessary.

This is Dottie "Doing what's
right!" (for
the little tortoises and for us, too!)
Dottie
Carlson, we all miss you!
